Blair Hobbs

On view november 10–29, 2025

Fischer Galleries is pleased to present a new body of work by Oxford, Mississippi–based artist Blair Hobbs. Known for her intricate, language-infused collages, Hobbs continues to explore the intersections of storytelling, memory, and materiality.

Her mixed-media compositions, layered with handwritten text, handmade papers, paint, foil, thread, and found objects, reflect a poetic impulse that transforms personal experience into vivid narrative form.  Each piece offers an intimate conversation between text and image, humor and loss, the ordinary and the sublime.

Hobbs’s work has chronicled subjects ranging from travel and Southern literature to illness, grief, and renewal. Through her singular voice and inventive materials, she reveals how art can both document and redeem the complexities of living.

A writer and visual artist, Blair Hobbs holds degrees in English and Creative Writing from Auburn University, Hollins University, and the University of Michigan. Her poetry has appeared in The Oxford American and The Paris Review, and her artwork has been exhibited and collected widely throughout the Southeast. She recently retired after 28 years as Senior Lecturer of Creative Writing at the University of Mississippi.
